AI Disclosure Drafter: Building Trust Through Transparency

So, you're using AI in your research. Welcome to the club! It's an incredible way to work faster and smarter. But with great power comes that slightly awkward question: "...how do I tell people I used it?"

It’s the AI Disclosure Dilemma: a tightrope walk between transparency, credibility, and a maze of new legal requirements. It's a lot to ask.

That's why I built the UXR AI Disclosure Drafting Tool. It's a simple, guided experience designed to turn that disclosure anxiety into a moment of confident transparency. The tool walks you through a series of questions and, based on your answers, generates a clear, objective, and professionally worded disclosure statement tailored to your specific audience.

The Solution: A SIMPLIFIED Path to Clear Disclosure

The AI Disclosure Drafting Tool translates complex requirements into a simple, step-by-step workflow. Just choose your audience, and the tool guides you through exactly what you need to provide.

For Your Participants: Plain-Language Consent

  • You'll be asked about: How AI interacts with them, how their data is analyzed, and if it will be used for model training.

  • You'll get: A clear, easy-to-understand paragraph for your consent forms.

For Your Stakeholders: Build Credibility

  • You'll be asked for: The AI tools used, the specific tasks performed, and the level of human oversight.

  • You'll get: A professional, paragraph-based statement for your methodology section.

For Academia: Publish with Confidence

Note this flow is based on the best-practice Artificial Intelligence Disclosure (AID) Framework by Kari D. Weaver!

  • You'll be asked for: Details for each tool (name, access date, developer), the specific tasks performed by each, and a privacy statement.

  • You'll get: A comprehensive, structured disclosure ready for any journal or conference.

A FRIENDLY REMINDER (aka the fine print)

This drafter is a guide designed to help you create clear and compliant disclosures based on current best practices, but it is not a substitute for legal advice. Legal and academic advice is evolving. While I hope to maintain this tool going forward, please be sure to double check the output and compare it against your institutional, local, and federal guidelines. As the researcher, you are ultimately accountable for the accuracy and integrity of your final statement. Always review the generated text to ensure it perfectly matches your methodology.

On the Making of This Tool (An AI Disclosure 😉)

It’s only fair that a tool about AI disclosure has its own, right?

In the spirit of full transparency, this tool was developed in collaboration with Google Gemini using 2.5 Pro and Google NotebookLM. I utilized Google Deep Research and Google NotebookLM as partners to help identify, summarize, and synthesize the initial research. I used Google Gemini 2.5 Pro to draft and suggest changes to content and write the code that brings this experience to life.

However, every piece of research was reviewed, every line of text was edited for our specific voice and goals, and every bit of code was validated and refined by a human (that's me!). Using AI as a collaborator enabled me to build a more robust and comprehensive tool more quickly than I could have done alone.

Think of it as a human-led, AI-assisted project, designed to help you do your best work.
